Semen Gresik’s SG Cerdas Program Offers Scholarships to Dozens of Selected Outstanding Students in Rembang Regency

Rembang, March 9, 2022 - PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) offers the Beasiswa Prasejahtera Berprestasi or BEST (scholarship program) to 20 outstanding underprivileged students in Rembang Regency under the SG Cerdas Corporate Social Responsibility Program. The BEST scholarship will be handed over to the college beneficiaries by the PTSG’s management in March.

Dharma Sunyata, the PTSG’s Senior Manager of Communication and CSR Unit, explained that the scholarship is the company’s contribution to encourage outstanding students from pre-prosperous families in Rembang to pursue their passion for learning. It also serves as a model for collaboration with Semen Gresik in the program sustainability.

“This scholarship is part of PTSG’s education-related CSR program. Educational scholarships are also a commitment of SIG Group, PTSG’s parent company, which are offered to underprivileged students in all company operational areas,” said Sunyata in a press release on Wednesday (9/3).

He added that it also serves as a tangible form of the company as an agent of social change in actively supporting the Government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program by improving education quality.

Sunyata continued that the BEST program for college students has been an annual event since 2018. The parameters used as the basis for selection in 2022 include students with the status of native Rembang residents studying at public universities with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and meeting the requirements established by the selection team consisting of consultants and education experts.

This year’s BEST program applicants include 61 students from Indonesian public universities in the second, fourth, and sixth semesters. As many as 20 students have been chosen from all candidates who meet the selection team’s criteria.

The scholarship awardees are currently studying at the IPB University, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Negeri Malang, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, UIN Walisongo, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Brawijaya, and IAIN Kudus.

“This is an annual scholarships program, and it is provided to students once a year to help them pursue their education. Each student receives 8 million Indonesian rupiahs,” Sunyata explained.

Dharma expected that this scholarship program would encourage quality education improvements and produce graduates with great integrity, national insights, and competence to become future leaders.
